The Varadharaja Perumal Temple is a sprawling Vaishnava temple covering 23 acres. Along with Ekambareswarar and Kamakshi Amman temples, it forms the 'Mumurtivasam' (abode of trio) in Kanchipuram.
It is one of the 108 Divya Desams, praised by the Alvars. The temple is especially famous for its enormous 100-pillared hall built by the Vijayanagara kings, which is adorned with masterful monolithic sculptures of riders on rearing horses.
