Built by Pallava King Nandivarman II in the 8th century, the Vaikunta Perumal Temple is an important milestone in Dravidian architecture. It features a unique three-tiered sanctum containing three different postures of Vishnu: sitting (ground floor), resting (first floor), and standing (second floor).
The inner walls of the cloisters display continuous sculptural panels that narrate the history of the Pallava dynasty, making it an invaluable historical document in stone.
