Ukkal Vishnu Temple

Ukkal Vishnu Temple (ancient Utkal) in Ranipet district is a 9th-century stone temple patronized by late Pallava and early Chola kings. The exterior walls of its basement carry 17 important stone inscriptions documenting ancient village assembly (sabha) governance, tax administration, and communal grain reserve banks.

It is a primary historical site for understanding local self-government in early medieval Tamilakam.
