The Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple is an ancient shrine and one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. It is situated at the foothills of the Brahmagiri mountains, which is the source of the sacred Godavari river.
Unique among the Jyotirlingas, the linga here has three faces symbolizing Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The current magnificent black basalt structure was commissioned by the third Peshwa, Balaji Baji Rao, in the mid-18th century.
