Thousand Pillar Temple, Warangal

The Thousand Pillar Temple (Rudreshwara Temple) in Hanamkonda, Telangana is a masterpiece of Kakatiya temple architecture. It was built in 1163 CE by Kakatiya King Rudra Deva and is dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu, and Surya — making it a rare tri-kuta (three-shrined) temple.

The temple is famous for its star-shaped platforms, intricately carved ceiling panels, and of course its thousand delicately carved basalt pillars. The main pillars feature ornate sculptures of gods, goddesses, and celestial nymphs.

A large monolithic Nandi (sacred bull) sits in front of the main shrine, and a decorative garden surrounds the complex. The temple suffered considerable damage during the Delhi Sultanate invasions but has been partially restored by the Archaeological Survey of India.
