Chandramouleeswarar Temple at Thiruvakkarai in Viluppuram district was rebuilt in stone around 970 CE by pious Chola queen Sembiyan Mahadevi. The temple site is adjacent to the National Fossil Wood Park, where 20-million-year-old petrified tree trunks are preserved.
The temple complex features a unique three-headed Vishnu shrine, Vakra Kali shrine, and early Chola stone inscriptions.
