Thiruttani Veeratheneswarar Temple

Veeratheneswarar Temple at Thiruttani in Tiruvallur district is a rare 9th-century all-granite apsidal (gajaprishta — elephant back) temple built by the last Pallava ruler Aparajita Varman in 885 CE.

The apsidal sanctum rear wall houses a magnificent relief of Somaskanda. The temple is an architectural masterpiece marking the final climax of Pallava stone construction before Chola supremacy.
