Thimmamma Marrimanu Temple

Thimmamma Marrimanu is the world's largest single tree canopy, a 550-year-old banyan tree spread over 5 acres with over 1,100 aerial roots, considered sacred and worshipped as a goddess.

A small temple beneath the tree venerates Thimmamma, a woman who is said to have performed sati at this spot and was thereafter venerated as a goddess. The tree itself is considered her embodiment. The Guinness Book of World Records certified this as the largest banyan tree in the world.
