The Taratarini Temple is one of the oldest and most powerful Shakti Peethas in India, situated on a hill called Kumari on the banks of the Rushikulya river. The twin goddesses Tara and Tarini are worshipped here as one supreme entity.
It is believed the breasts of Goddess Sati fell here, making it a Shakti Peetha. The temple is one of the four sacred Shakti shrines of Odisha along with Biraja, Sarala, and Bhagabati.
