Talakadu Group of Temples

Talakadu is an ancient town on the banks of the Kaveri river that has been submerged by sand dunes — giving it a haunting, mysterious character. The exposed temples from beneath the sand dunes include 5 Shiva temples, most notably Vaidyeshwara and Pathaleshwara.

The site is associated with the famous curse of the Mysore Wadiyar queens and the Panchaling Darshana festival. Once every 12 years the sands retreat enough for large-scale worship — a pilgrimage event of extraordinary significance in Karnataka.
