Within the vast Ranganathaswamy temple complex at Srirangam, the Ranganayaki (Thayar) Shrine is dedicated to the consort of Lord Ranganatha. In Vaishnava theology, approaching the consort (Thayar) first is critical because she intercedes with her Lord on behalf of devotees.

The shrine contains some of the finest Vijayanagara-era sculptures and is a masterpiece of medieval Dravidian art. The Aippasi Brahmotsavam festival at the Thayar shrine is one of the most elaborate ritual celebrations at Srirangam.
