Srikalahasti Temple

The Srikalahasti Temple is an ancient Shiva temple at the foot of the Kalahasteeswara hill, revered as one of the Panchabhoota Stalas (representing the element of Air). The presiding deity is Srikalahasteeswara, whose sacred flame is seen to flicker inside the sealed sanctum — a phenomenon attributing to the Air element worship.

Its towering 120-foot Vijayanagara-era gopuram was built by Krishnadevaraya in the early 16th century, and the temple is notable for its unique spider, serpent, and elephant devotee legends.
