Sheetleshwar Mahadev Temple

Sheetleshwar Mahadev Temple at Jhalrapatan on the Chandrabhaga River in Jhalawar district is one of the most historically precious monuments of Rajasthan, holding an intact stone inscription dated 689 CE (V.S. 746) during the reign of King Durgagana — making it the oldest dated stone temple structure in Rajasthan.

Built of red sandstone, the sanctum and pillared hall feature exquisite early Nagara carved jambs, river goddess figures, and complex floral ceilings that predate the exuberant Solanki and Chauhan eras by centuries.
