Rani ki Vav, Patan

Rani ki Vav (Queen's Stepwell) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most elaborate stepwells ever constructed. Built in the 11th century by Queen Udayamati in memory of her husband, King Bhimdev I of the Solanki dynasty, it plunges seven levels deep and 64 meters in length.

Designed as an inverted temple with shrines at each level, its walls are covered with over 500 principal sculptures and more than a thousand minor ones depicting Vishnu's ten avatars, Apsaras, and divine couples.
