About
The Ranakpur Jain Temple (Chaturmukha Dharana Vihara) is considered the finest example of Jain temple architecture in India. Built in 1437 CE by a wealthy Jain merchant, Seth Dharna Shah, with the blessings of Jain saints, it is dedicated to Adinatha (Rishabhadeva), the first Tirthankara.
The complex stands on 48,000 square feet and consists of 1,444 carved marble pillars — no two alike — supporting 29 halls and 80 domes. The quality and quantity of white marble carving is simply unmatched anywhere in the world.
