About
The Ramappa Temple, built in 1213 CE by Kakatiya general Recharla Rudra, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (inscribed 2021). It is named after its chief sculptor — a rare honour in medieval Indian temple construction. The temple is famous for its lightweight 'floating brick' (kapparasala rerlu) technology used in the upper shikhara.
The sculptures of madanikas (bracket figures) here are considered among the finest female figures in Indian temple art — fluid, sensuous, and radiating a joyful vitality that sets the Kakatiya style apart from contemporary traditions.
