Patan Devi Temple, Patna

Patan Devi Temple (Badi Patan Devi) in Patna is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and among the most ancient and revered Hindu shrines in Bihar. According to tradition, the right thigh of Goddess Sati fell at this location. The site is believed to have been a centre of Shakta worship for over a millennium.

The Patan Devi complex actually houses three deities — Badi Patan Devi (worshipped as Mahakali), Chhoti Patan Devi (as Mahalakshmi), and Patan Devi (as Mahasaraswati) — representing the three great goddesses of the Hindu tradition. The temple complex is located in the heart of old Patna (Pataliputra) and is an important pilgrimage site, especially during Navratri, when tens of thousands of devotees visit.
