Pataleshwar Cave Temple in downtown Pune is an 8th-century Rashtrakuta rock-cut monolithic basalt Shiva cave temple carved directly out of a single rock hill face. It features a circular umbrella-like Nandi mandapa supported by massive square basalt pillars.
Dedicated to Shiva as Pataleshwar (Lord of the Underworld), it is Pune oldest surviving architectural monument.
