The Parasurameswara Temple is considered the oldest well-preserved temple in Bhubaneswar, dating to roughly 650 CE. It showcases the early stages of Kalinga architecture.

The temple is characterized by a low deula (sanctum tower) and a flat-roofed jagamohana (assembly hall). Its walls feature some of the earliest depictions of the Saptamatrikas (seven mother goddesses) and beautiful representations of Shiva, Parvati, and Ganesha.
