Muvar Koil, Kodumbalur

Muvar Koil ('Temple of Three') at Kodumbalur is a 10th-century twin shrine complex built by the Irukkuvel chieftains, feudatories of the Chola king Parantaka I. Two of the original three granite shrines survive, each featuring a distinctive Dravida vimana with sculpted panels of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva in various aspects. The site contains some of the finest examples of early Chola stone sculpture outside of Thanjavur.
