Martand Sun Temple

The Martand Sun Temple was a magnificent Hindu temple dedicated to Surya, built by King Lalitaditya Muktapida of the Karkota dynasty in the 8th century CE. It is considered a masterpiece of Kashmiri temple architecture.

The temple was completely destroyed upon the orders of Sikandar Shah Miri in the 15th century. Today, its impressive ruins still convey a sense of its former grandeur, featuring Greek, Roman, and Byzantine architectural influences blended with classical Hindu elements.
