Markanda Mahadev Temple, Chamorshi

The Markanda Mahadev Temple complex near Chamorshi in Gadchiroli district is an extraordinary collection of 60 ancient stone shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva on the banks of the Wainganga River. Known as the 'Khajuraho of Vidarbha', the complex dates from the 9th–11th centuries CE and features ornate sculptural panels of sensuous apsaras, divine couples, and mythological figures comparable to the famous Madhya Pradesh temples.
