Lepakshi Temples

The Lepakshi temple complex is a magnificent Vijayanagara-era monument housing the Veerabhadra Temple, the Shiva Temple, and the Raghunatha Temple. Built in 1530 CE by two brothers, Virupanna and Veeranna, who were governors under the Vijayanagara Empire.

The site is famous for a huge granite Nandi (bull) carved from a single rock — one of the largest such sculptures in India — and for the hanging pillar that rests on the floor without touching it. The temple's murals are considered masterpieces of Vijayanagara painting.
