Lakshmi Narayan Temple Complex, Chamba

The Lakshmi Narayan Temple Complex at Chamba is a magnificent group of six stone temples built in the 10th century by Raja Sahil Varman, founder of the Chamba Kingdom, dedicated to Lakshmi Narayan (Vishnu). The main temple features a characteristic Shikhara of the North Indian Nagara style as adapted to the Himalayan mountain setting, with carved doorway panels depicting river goddesses, Dvarapalas, and Navarasa depictions. The complex is one of the finest surviving examples of early medieval Himalayan temple architecture.
