About

The Lakshmana Temple is one of the best-preserved and earliest major temples in the Khajuraho Western Group. Built by Chandela King Yashovarman, it is dedicated to Vaikuntha Vishnu (a three-headed form of Vishnu).

The temple is structured as a panchayatana (five-shrined) complex and sits on a high platform (jagati). Like all major Khajuraho temples, its exterior is densely covered with sculptures representing deities, apsaras, mythic beasts (vyalas), and scenes of daily life, including the famous erotic panels.
