The Kumbha Shyam Temple within the Chittorgarh Fort is dedicated to Varah (the boar incarnation of Vishnu). Built by the warrior-poet king Rana Kumbha in the 15th century CE, its outer walls are adorned with a dense program of sculpture including celestial maidens, battle scenes, and mythological narratives.
The temple sits on a high jagati platform and exemplifies the late Pratihara-influenced Maru-Gurjara style that defined Rajput temple construction at its zenith.
