The Krishna Janmasthan Temple Complex is built around the prison cell where Lord Krishna is believed to have been born. The site is immensely sacred in Hinduism.
Historically known as Katra Keshavdeva, temples at this site were repeatedly destroyed by invading forces over the centuries, most notably by Aurangzeb in 1670. The current grand temple complex was reconstructed in the 20th century, largely funded by industrialist Ramkrishna Dalmia.
