The Kashi Vishweshvara Temple complex at Lakkundi in Gadag is a superlative ensemble of 11th-century Western Chalukya architecture, including the main Shiva temple and the nearby Brahma Jinalaya, the earliest dated stone Jain basadi in northern Karnataka (1007 CE). The Kashi Vishweshvara Temple itself features a kalasha-topped shikhara of great vertical elegance surrounded by remarkably detailed latticework stone screens (jaalis) and stepped wells (pushkarini).
