The Kanak Bhawan (Golden House) is one of the most beloved temples in Ayodhya. Legend holds it was built by King Dasharatha as a palace given to Queen Kaikeyi as a wedding gift, and was later given to Sita by the king after her marriage to Rama.
The present structure was rebuilt in 1891 by the Scindia queen of Orccha. The temple enshrines golden idols of Ram and Sita wearing golden crowns, making it the most ornate temple in Ayodhya after the new Ram Mandir.
