About

Jatar Deul is an extraordinary 10th-century brick Rekha deul tower rising nearly 100 feet in the remote Sundarbans delta of South 24 Parganas. A copper plate inscription found nearby attributes its construction to King Jayantachandra in 975 CE.

Built of tightly joined thin bricks, its soaring spire retains sharp architectural contours amidst mangrove countryside. It is the southernmost ancient temple monument in Bengal.
