Jambukeswarar Temple, Thiruvanaikaval

The Jambukeswarar Temple is one of the Pancha Bhuta Stalas (five abodes of the five elements), representing Water (Appu). The unique feature of this temple is a natural spring that perpetually fills the sanctum sanctorum, submerging the Shiva lingam partially in water.

The presiding goddess here is Akilandeswari, one of the most powerful forms of Shakti. The goddess is considered more powerful than the lord here, and the male deity seeks her protection — a rare reversal in Hindu temple theology.
