Jalakandeswarar Temple, Vellore

The Jalakandeswarar Temple is a 16th-century Hindu temple situated inside the famous Vellore Fort, one of the most remarkable military structures of the medieval era. The temple was built during the Vijayanagara period.

The temple is dedicated to Shiva and is known for its exquisitely carved mandapam featuring sculptures of horses, elephants, and celestial beings. The kalyana mandapam (marriage hall) is particularly notable for its intricate bas-relief carvings on its pillars.

The temple was used as a magazine and granary by the British colonial administration, limiting worship for many years. It was restored by the Archaeological Survey of India and is now a protected monument.
