Jagat Ambika Temple

The Jagat Ambika Temple in the remote village of Jagat near Udaipur is often called the 'Khajuraho of Mewar.' Built in 961 CE during the Guhila dynasty, it is a sublime example of the Māru-Gurjara architectural style, its outer walls covered with extraordinarily detailed carvings of deities, apsaras, celestial musicians, and erotic couples.

Far less visited than Khajuraho, the temple retains an authentic, undisturbed atmosphere. It is dedicated to the Mother Goddess Ambika, whose large, beautifully carved image sits in the main sanctum.
