Hangal Tarakeshwar Temple in Haveri district is a 12th-century Kalyani Chalukya masterpiece celebrated for its spectacular octagonal stone-latticed ceiling dome inside the Navaranga (nine-square hall) — considered one of the finest such ceilings in Karnataka.
The temple is dedicated to Tarakeshwara (Shiva as destroyer of demon Taraka). Richly carved exterior walls feature multiple friezes of elephants, horses, foliage, and divine figures. The Hangal Kadamba dynasty co-patronised this temple alongside the Kalyani Chalukyas.
