Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple

Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple, often called the "Dwarka of the South" and one of the holiest Vaishnava shrines in India, draws millions of pilgrims annually. The deity — Lord Vishnu in a four-armed form — is known as Guruvayurappan and is believed to be the same idol worshipped by Vasudeva and Devaki, the parents of Krishna.

The temple complex features the classic Kerala architectural style: a sloping roof of copper sheets, elaborate wood carvings in the interior corridors, and the famous Vilakku Madam — a large circular lamp stand with 7,000 oil wicks that are lit on special occasions. The temple is known for its resident gajaraj (temple elephants), the most famous being Guruvayur Keshavan. Non-Hindus are not permitted entry.
