The Grishneshwar Temple, sometimes referred to as the Ghrneshwar Jyotirlinga, is an important Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva, and is the twelfth and last of the Jyotirlingas. It is located less than a kilometre from the Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The temple was rebuilt in the 18th century by Ahilyabai Holkar, the Maratha queen, after it was destroyed during the Mughal-Maratha wars. It is an illustration of Maratha temple architectural style with a prominent five-tier shikhara.
The temple is built of red rock and features intricate carvings of many Hindu deities. A special feature is the continuous stream of water (abhisheka) flowing over the lingam.
