The Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, considered the twelfth and final one. Located less than a kilometer from the famous Ellora Caves, it represents a crucial pilgrimage site in Maharashtra.
The temple was repeatedly destroyed during the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal periods, and was finally rebuilt in its current form in the 18th century by the great Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar. Built of red stone and basalt, it is a fine example of Maratha temple architecture.
