Gop Sun Temple

The Gop Sun Temple, near Jamnagar in Gujarat, is one of the oldest surviving structural stone temples in India, dating to the 6th–7th century CE Maitraka/Gupta period. The temple features a distinctive spade-shaped shikhara (Latina style) rising over a simple but elegantly proportioned base, considered a prototype of the evolving Nagara temple tradition in western India. Its remote hilltop setting and early date make it an invaluable monument of India's architectural heritage.
