About
The Gommateshwara Statue is a 57-foot (17 m) high monolithic statue on Vindyagiri Hill, dedicated to the Jain figure Bahubali. Carved entirely out of a single block of granite in 981 CE by Chavundaraya, a minister of the Ganga Dynasty.
It is one of the largest free-standing monolithic statues in the world. Every 12 years, millions of devotees gather here for the Mahamastakabhisheka, a grand anointing ceremony.
