About
The Eklingji Temple complex is the tutelary deity of the Mewar royal family. Lord Shiva as Eklingji (one-lingam) has been worshipped as the true sovereign of Mewar since the temple was founded in 734 CE, with the Maharanas serving merely as regents.
The complex contains 108 temples within its walls. The main sanctum houses a four-faced black marble image of Shiva, 50 feet high. The Maharana of Udaipur continues to receive blessings at this temple before any major state ceremony.
