The Shrinathji Temple at Nathdwara houses the most celebrated idol of Lord Krishna in the Pushti Marg tradition of Vaishnavism. The 7-year-old form of Krishna (Srinathji) is worshipped with extraordinary devotion through elaborate sewa (service) rituals that change by the hour and by the season.
The idol was brought here from Mathura in 1671 CE to save it from the religious persecution of Aurangzeb. The temple is globally famous for its Pichwai paintings — elaborate cloth paintings depicting Krishna's stories — which originated at Nathdwara.
