The Dhamek Stupa is a massive stupa located at Sarnath, where the Buddha gave his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. Originally commissioned by Emperor Ashoka in 249 BCE, the current solid, cylindrical brick structure dates back to 500 CE.
Standing 43.6 meters high and 28 meters in diameter, its lower portion is covered with intricately carved stone blocks depicting beautiful floral carvings of Gupta origin.
