About
The Danteshwari Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, where the tooth (dant) of Goddess Sati is believed to have fallen. The Goddess Danteshwari is the kuldevi (family deity) of the erstwhile Kakatiya rulers of Bastar.
Built in the 14th century, the temple is the focal point of the famous 75-day long Bastar Dussehra festival, uniquely involving the tribal communities of the region. The deity is carved from black stone and the temple is situated at the confluence of the Shankini and Dhankini rivers.
