Chausath Yogini Temple, Ranipur Jharial

The Chausath Yogini Temple at Ranipur Jharial in Balangir district is a remarkable 9th-century circular hypaethral (open-sky) stone temple built atop a massive granite outcrop. The circular compound wall contains 64 niches housing individual Yogini goddesses, with the central shrine dedicated to Shiva. This layout — intended to channel the power of all 64 Yoginis toward the center — is paralleled by only a handful of temples in all of India.
