Chandika Sthan, Munger

Chandika Sthan at Munger is one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas where the body parts of Goddess Sati are believed to have fallen — specifically her left eye, according to popular tradition. The shrine is located on the outskirts of Munger, on the banks of the Ganga, and has an ancient cave-like setting that gives it a mystical, primal atmosphere.

The goddess here is worshipped as Chandi or Chandika, a fierce form of Durga. Munger itself is a historically significant city with an ancient fort and is now globally known as the home of the Bihar School of Yoga. The temple is particularly busy during Navratri and is deeply embedded in the religious life of eastern Bihar and Jharkhand.
