Brahma Temple, Pushkar

The Brahma Temple at Pushkar is one of the very few temples in the world dedicated to the Hindu creator deity Brahma. Most legends attribute its non-worship to a curse by his consort Savitri, making active Brahma temples a rarity worldwide.

The temple is believed to have been built originally over 2,000 years ago; the current structure is from the 14th century. It is constructed of marble and stone with a red spire (shikhara) and a hamsa (goose) motif, the symbol of Brahma.

Pushkar is considered one of the five sacred dhams in Hindu tradition. The adjacent Pushkar Lake is considered especially holy, and taking a dip in it is said to cleanse the soul of all sins.
