The Biraja Temple in Jajpur is one of the premier Shakti Peethas in India, where the navel of Sati is believed to have fallen. The presiding deity is Goddess Biraja (Durga) in her Mahishasuramardini form, notably possessing only two arms instead of the usual ten.
Jajpur was an ancient capital of Odisha and is known as Biraja Kshetra. The current temple dates mostly to the 11th century and remains a major pilgrimage center.
