Bhutanatha Group of Temples, Badami

The Bhutanatha Group comprises stunning sandstone temples located on the eastern edge of the Agastya Lake in Badami. Dedicated to Lord Shiva as Bhutanatha (Lord of souls/spirits), the complex consists of two major temple groups.

The earlier structures date back to the Early Chalukya period (7th century), while outer additions were made by the Kalyani Chalukyas in the 11th century. The serene setting against the red sandstone cliffs and the artificial lake makes it one of the most picturesque temple sites in Karnataka.
