The Baijnath Temple is a magnificent 13th-century stone temple dedicated to Shiva as Vaidyanath ('Lord of Physicians'). Set against the dramatic backdrop of the snow-capped Dhauladhar range, it is one of the most beautiful temples in the Himalayas.
The temple is a prime example of the early medieval North Indian temple architecture (Nagara style). Uniquely, the town of Baijnath does not celebrate the festival of Dussehra out of respect for Ravana, who is believed to have worshipped Shiva intensely at this very spot.
