The Avudayarkoil (Atmanatha Temple) is one of the architecturally finest temples of the Chola period in Pudukkottai district. Set in a remote location, it is an outstanding example of late Chola architecture.
The temple is associated with the Tamil Shaiva saint Manikkavachakar, who is said to have attained moksha here. It contains rare inscriptions and a unique Airavatesvara shrine.
